Center Line Public Library

Chesterfield Township Library

• Online learning tools for young children up to adult learners are available with a free library card at chelibrary.org. Residents may also apply for a free card at the website.

Clinton-Macomb Public Library

•Mysterious Michigan at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at Main Library. From the mischievous Nain Rouge to the ghost of Minnie Quay, researcher Amberrose Hammond will share spooky Michigan history just in time for Halloween. To register, call 586-226-5040.

•Memory Café event 10 a.m. Nov. 2 at Main Library.  This is a great opportunity for those with dementia and their caregivers to gather in a low-pressure social environment. This month's theme is Thanksgiving. The group will discuss the Detroit Thanksgiving Parade. No registration is required to attend this free event.

• Quality used book sale Nov. 2-4 at Main Library. Items at this sale will be of a higher value and price than the ongoing book sale. 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Nov. 2; 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 3 and 4. Members of the Friends of the Library will get 20 percent off on Nov. 4.

• CMPL is again offering the 1-2-3 program combining one topic, two communities and three age appropriate books that discuss a particular topic. This year is climate change. Intentional programming centered on the topic will be offered. Books chosen are 'The Tantrum that Saved the World' by Megan Herbert and Michael E. Mann for children; 'Dry' by Neal Shusterman for teens and 'The Story of More: How we got to climate change and where to go from here' by Hope Jackson.

Harrison Township Public Library

• Knitting and Crochet Circle 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Oct. 31; Nov. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Knitters and crocheters of all levels are welcome to bring your own project and supplies. Items are donated to charitable organizations and the group is also accepting donations of yarn, fleece or craft store gift cards. Group donates to charitable organizations like Beaumont Little Angels, Project Linus, Compassion Pregnancy and more to give comfort items in times of need. Also accepting donations of Beanie Babies for children that are in need of comfort.

•Death and Lighthouses on the Great Lakes with Author Dianna Stampfler 2:30 p.m. Nov. 4. The dangerous and lonely lives of lighthouse keepers are rich grounds for intrigue. Expert Dianna Stampfler investigates the mysterious disappearances and deaths in her latest book Death and Lighthouses on the Great Lakes. Books will be available for purchase. Registration is appreciated but not required.

Tales with Tails 5-6:30 p.m. Nov. 9. Sign your child up for a 15-minute session to read to Bailey, a gentle therapy dog. What a fun way to practice reading and build those skills. Stop by the library or call 586-329-1261 to register for a time slot.

•Baby Sign, Say, and Play 10-11 a.m. Fridays Oct. 13-Nov. 17. For parents/caregivers and their little ones to learn sign language together in a fun, safe playgroup setting. The 6-week series introduces sign language through themes each week and is reinforced through songs, books, activities, and play.  Registration required. You do not need to attend every class in the series to participate.

• Baby play group 10 a.m. Mondays Sept. 11-Oct. 30 (no group Oct. 16). Children 6 to 24 months can join Miss Tina for stories and songs, and then let your babies play together for the rest of the time! This is a great way for babies and parents to spend time together and enjoy themselves while building early literacy skills. Registration not required.

• Music and Movement with Music Maker Marge! 10 a.m. Tuesdays Oct. 2-31. Children walking through age 5 can enjoy  Songs and stories set to music. No registration required. Drop-ins welcome.

• YA Game Day Friday 2:30-4:30 p.m. Fridays. It's been a long week so come visit our library for Friday fun. There will be different games set out every Friday for teens to enjoy.

• 1st Stop For Tots At Home kits. Families with children between the age of birth and age 3 that reside in St. Clair Shores can request a kit. They contain one board book, one Easy book, on shaky egg, once scarf, one set of bells, two rhythm sticks, one Basic Skills Practice Ring set, a rhyme booklet, a tips sheet and TALK promotional materials for families to keep. • The Youth Services department, with the help of grant funding, has created 14 explorer packs for children and families to check out. Each pack contains learning tools, non fiction books, activity sheets, identification guides and other manipulatives centered on an outdoor activity. Topics include insects, bird watching, astronomy water, hiking, plants and rocks. To check out an Explorer pack or for more information, ask at the Youth Services Desk.

Shelby Township Public Library

• Teen Mystery Night 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 3.  Those in grades 7-12 can take up the case. It's 1999 and boy bands reign supreme. A group of online super fans decide they should meet up IRL before a concert… but the plans are canceled when murder joins the chat. You are the detective.  Registration required.

• Paws to Read 9:30-11:30 a.m. Nov. 4. Those in grades K and up can develop reading skills with a supportive friend who won't judge or interrupt. Children and their caregivers can check in at the children's desk to take turns reading to a certified therapy dog with its handler. Bring a book from home to read or choose one in the library.

• LEGO Play Day 1:30-2:30 p.m. Nov. 4  All ages welcome to drop in for some free play with bricks and blocks of various sizes. Test your building skills with some challenges or design your own builds.

•Families and Jammies 6:30-7 p.m. Nov. 9. All ages welcome to put on your pajamas and drop in for stories, songs and activities for the family.

•Seeing the Elephant: Female Soldiers and Spies in the Civil War 7 p.m. Nov. 8. Women have served our great nation in many capacities throughout the years. The Civil War was no exception. Learn who these brave women were and how they made a difference.

•Teen Book Club 3-4:30 p.m. Nov. 18 for those in grades 7-12. Selection is 'Truly Devious' by Maureen Johnson. Come hang out, talk about the book, enjoy a themed activity and compete for prizes during book trivia.  Free copies of the book will be available for pick up before each month's meeting, while supplies last.

• Preschool Pages 10-10:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Dec. 19 (no storytime Nov. 21) for those ages 3.5-5. Stories and activities for preschoolers to help prepare them for kindergarten. Shelby Township residents may register online one week in advance for each class.

Sterling Heights Public Library

• Library cardholders can reserve a time to use the Maker's Space by appointment. Look for Maker Space Lab on the program calendar.

• PAWS for Reading 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays. The first 10 children to check in at the youth desk on Tuesday nights will be able to read to a therapy dog.

Warren Public Libraries

• All Warren public library branches will be able to offer a telescope for patrons to check out with a valid library card thanks to being selected to be part of NASA @ My Library, an education initiative to increase and enhance science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) opportunities for library patrons. The Warren Civic Center library will offer telescope events throughout the year as well.

Warren Busch Branch Library

• Grab-and-Go Science at Busch Branch Library has science themed kits available for check out exploring topics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with fun and kid-friendly hands on activities. Each kit also contains a related book and instructions. For children, tweens and teens ages six and up, recommended ages vary by kit and activity.  More kits will be added to the collection soon. They can be checked out for 21 days and renewed up to two times and must be checked out and returned to the Busch Branch.

Warren Civic Center Library

• Children's Book Boxes, a subscription box program for children in grades 3-5. To sign up you must live in Warren and have a valid Warren Library card. Each box will contain 1-2 library books selected based on your preferences and one free book to keep. Boxes will contain fun surprises too! Sign up online at warrenlibrary.net/childrens-book-boxes

• PAWS To Read 5-6 p.m. Wednesdays. Children of all ages can come and read to therapy dog Desmond and Sashi. The PAWS program welcomes new and struggling readers to read to a certified therapy dog. The goal is to provide a non-judgmental atmosphere in which kids can read without correction or interruption and learn not just to read, but to love reading as well. No registration required.

All Macomb County libraries, as part of the Suburban Library Cooperative, subscribe to RB Digital which has over 100 digital magazines that can be checked out immediately. They also offer educational services through Tutor.com, which provides homework help, test preparation and term paper and resume review.  Students can use their student ID number to access those services.
