The Google logo is seen January 8, 2020 at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada. ROBYN BECK /AFP Alphabet's market capitalization of over $1.5 trillion makes it one of the most valuable publicly traded companies in the world, trailing only Apple, Microsoft and Amazon. Created in 2015, Alphabet is essentially a holding company for Google, which generates nearly all of its revenue and profit. Google has always portrayed itself as a tech company and has invested in many far-reaching areas of technology — such as internet search, mobile phones, artificial intelligence, self-driving cars and health technology. Its conference for software developers, Google I/O, which kicks off Tuesday, typically intersperses deep tech talk with far-reaching visions of the future. French court sets date for another trial against Apple’s App Store - 9to5Mac

On September 17, a French court will be hearing a case brought by the finance ministry against Apple, according to a report by Reuters . Similar to what happened with the Epic Games vs. Apple case, the French finance ministry alleges abusive contractual terms imposed by Apple for selling software on the App Store. " The case, judged by Paris' commercial court, is unlikely to lead to a significant fine if Apple is found guilty, based on previous similar cases. But the court could compel the iPhone maker to change some of its App Store contractual terms. " According to the report, "the ministry's lawsuit comes after a three-year probe by the DGCCRF consumer fraud watchdog, which comes under the remit of Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, who ordered the investigation." Reuters says, unlike other countries, the law in France allows the finance minister to sue companies if "the abusive business practices are found in contracts." Last wee

Google: No Limit to Page Indexing For One Site - Search Engine Journal

Google says there's no limit to how many static HTML pages it can index from one site. The subject of indexing limits is the focus of the latest installment of Ask Googlebot on YouTube. Whether a page is dynamic or static doesn't matter to Google because it can't tell the difference. Important SEO Fundamentals In 2021 - Built In

Trying to search-engine optimize your site can sometimes feel like reading a crystal ball. Every website owner wants to know what it takes to rank at the top of search results, but in spite of periodic communications by search companies and the best efforts of SEO experts, it's always hard to tell exactly how it all works. That's because the algorithms search companies use to determine rank are complex, and they have only gotten more complex over time, as changes are layered on in an ever-changing game of cat and mouse between search companies and the website owners trying to uncover loopholes that help them achieve better rank. As a result, search companies are generally quite tight-lipped about how, exactly, their algorithms work. Google has dominated search since the 1990s, and the company continues to be the largest player today. Moreover, forty-one percent of the world's population — over 3 billion users — use Chrome browsers, according to a recent study by Atlas

Another Match Bites the Dust: Google Ads to Kill Broad Match Modified - JumpFly PPC Advertising News

Image
Under the guise of making things easier for businesses to reach searchers, Google is folding Broad Match Modified (BMM) into Phrase Match around the middle of February, effectively killing BMM. But, to be honest, they have so completely changed their match types' intent over the last couple of years that none of them really have any meaning anymore. Exact Match hasn't been exact, in fact, for years.  And that upsets me. Because while Google says it's in the best interest of their advertisers, that's not what I'm seeing. Clients who we've spent a lot of time and effort on optimizing the keywords that produced the results they needed — based on cost per acquisition or return on ad spend — are seeing those efforts slide away as unprofitable keywords leach back into their accounts. If you manage ad campaigns, you know that sometimes plurals of terms don't perform as well as the singular (or vice versa). The same can be true with word order variations of ke

Does Changing Article Dates Improve Your SEO Rankings? - CMSWire

Image
PHOTO: Adobe In the world of SEO, there are many factors to consider when it comes to an article's date. It may seem like a good idea to change the date on an article so that it appears more recent, but this could have adverse effects on your site's search engine ranking.   Some people think that by changing the date on articles, they will trick Google into thinking new content has been published when it really hasn't been. About this particular issue, Christian Velitchkov, Co-founder at Los Angeles, CA.-based Twiz, says that "there have been content writers who merely change dates of old content to make the writeup look fresh and recent. This malpractice has given birth to superstition." While others argue that if you are adding more information to an article, then updating its date is acceptable and desirable to change article dates because you're improving the article with new info.   The SEO community is divided over the use of changing article dates.
